Outland Technology is seeking a Embedded Software Engineer to help design and deliver the next generation of underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) systems. In this role, you will take ownership of projects from concept through development, integration, testing, and deployment, working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and additional software engineers to design and develop next-generation ROV systems and tools
• Maintain, enhance, and refactor existing firmware and software codebases
• Conduct code reviews to ensure high-quality, reliable, and maintainable software
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve firmware issues to improve system performance and reliability
• Research, evaluate, and integrate new technologies into current and future product

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in embedded software or firmware development
• Proficiency in C and/or C++
• Working knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I²C
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and task management tools
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
• Hands-on experience using lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TI MSP430FR and STM32 ARM microcontrollers
• Experience with Embedded Linux and device driver development
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson series SBCs
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
• Proficiency in soldering and hardware bring-up
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and collaborative mindset
